Saturday, April 5, 2025:

9:30 p.m.

As of 9:30pm this evening, AES Indiana has reached 100% restoration. For the last 72 hours, our crews worked around the clock as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to the nearly 87,000 customers impacted by Wednesday night’s severe weather system.

Winds exceeding 80 mph, accompanied by heavy rain and falling trees, caused significant damage to AES Indiana’s power lines and electric infrastructure.

Our customers rely on us to be prepared and restore power as quickly as possible during these critical times. It is a privilege to serve our customers, and we thank them for their trust, patience and understanding. We appreciate our community for their cooperation in this safe restoration effort, and we're always thankful for how Central Indiana unites during times of need.

10:30 a.m.

Our crews continue to work around the clock to restore power to customers impacted by Wednesday night’s severe weather system. The total number of customers impacted is approximately 87,000 with approximately 600 customers remaining. AES Indiana is fully staffed, and crews will continue to work as quickly and safely as possible.

  • We’ve restored power to 99% of customers impacted from Wednesday's severe weather system.
  • We anticipate reaching full restoration by midday Sunday as our crews continue to see widespread extensive damage with downed trees and power lines.
  • There are 118 incidents remaining – down by nearly 1,000 from the beginning of the storm – that our crews are responding to across our service territory. Each incident is a separate job requiring assessment, which takes time due to the severity of the damage. The incidents remaining are also smaller in nature meaning we’re bringing fewer customers on at a time. To the best of our ability, we also are prioritizing restoration efforts based on those customers who have been without power the longest.
  • This storm caused significant damage around the state, including Central Indiana. Our top priority remains restoring power safely. Please keep in mind that our AES Indiana crews are working in dangerous conditions putting their lives on the line to power yours.

9:00 a.m.

Yesterday’s weather system brought damaging wind gusts that recorded between 80-100 MPH and a possible tornado touched down near the northwest corner of AES Indiana’s service territory causing significant damage impacting approximately 75,000 customers. More than half of our customers have been restored as of 8:30 this morning; however, crews will work around the clock to restore the remaining ~25,000 customers as quickly and safely as possible.

  • We anticipate restoration efforts to occur throughout the day given the extensive damage to poles and infrastructure from the wind gusts and downed trees.

The incidents remaining are also smaller in nature meaning we’re bringing fewer customers on at a time.
