IPL recognizes National Medal of Honor Day

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), today commemorates National Medal of Honor Day. The Medal of Honor is the military’s highest award of valor.

IPL is donating $1,000 to the National Medal of Honor Foundation to have the most recent Medal of Honor recipient’s names added to the Memorial later this spring. The following recipient’s will be honored for their bravery:

William Shemin, Sergeant, U.S. Army, Date of Action: August 7-9, 1917
Henry Johnson, Private, U.S. Army, Date of Action: May 15, 1918
Florent A. Groberg, Captain, U.S. Army, Date of Action: August 8, 2012
Bennie G. Adkins, Sergeant First Class, U.S. Army, Date of Action: March 9-12, 1966
Donald P. Sloat, Specialist Fourth Class, U.S. Army, Date of Action: January 17, 1970
*Edward C. Byers, Jr., Senior Chief, U.S. Navy, Date of Action: December 8-9, 2012

IPL is also recognizing National Medal of Honor Day through its window light displays. The American flag will shine on IPL’s 10-story downtown headquarters light display today.

Since 1999, IPALCO Foundation has led efforts to recognize Medal of Honor recipients and their bravery and has led efforts to recognize Medal of Honor recipients and their bravery. The Medal of Honor Memorial is located along the canal at White River State Park in Downtown Indianapolis across from the Indiana State Museum.

The Memorial consists of 27 curved blue-green sails, representing 15 major conflicts of the country, dating back to the Civil War. Visitors are encouraged to rub their hands across the glass to feel the embedded names and can hear citations being read through an automated kiosk system.

Contributions to the Memorial can be made to the IPALCO Foundation at One Monument Circle, Indianapolis, IN, 46204.
