INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), has been named a 2017 Utility Environmental Champion by Market Strategies International’s Cogent Reports’ study, Utility Trusted Brand & Customer EngagementTM: Residential. Utility Environmental Champions were chosen based on survey responses from residential customers of 130 U.S. electric and natural gas companies.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for the second year in a row for our commitment to the environment,” said Rafael Sanchez, IPL President & CEO. “We have made significant strides over the past few years to invest in innovative technologies like natural gas and battery storage, which will enable us to meet the future needs of our customers with a balanced, cleaner and more efficient energy mix.”

The study placed IPL among 31 other electric and gas utilities achieving satisfaction among consumers for environmental efforts. IPL’s ranking reflects the extent to which customers believe IPL supports environmental causes, commitment to environmentally-friendly energy resources, encouragement of green initiatives and offering tools to help customers manage their energy usage.

As IPL looks toward the future, we remain committed to being a good environmental leader, steward and neighbor in Central Indiana. IPL’s future includes increased diversification of  resources with a bigger focus on natural gas as an energy source, while still utilizing coal, wind, solar, energy storage and energy efficiency as reliable resources1. Additionally, Indianapolis was recently recognized by the Environment America Research and Policy Center as #4 in the U.S. for the amount of installed solar PV capacity per person.

IPL has offered cost-effective Demand Side Management and Energy Efficiency programs for its customers on an uninterrupted basis since 1993. Energy efficiency remains an important element of IPL’s overall resource plan. Currently, IPL offers 12 energy efficiency PowerToolsSM programs, which give customers the power to understand, manage and reduce their energy usage.
