AES Indiana restores power to 100% of customers impacted by Hurricane Helene

October 2, 2024

AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), has reached full restoration on Tuesday, October 1 for the 100,000 customers impacted by the remnants of Hurricane Helene, a powerful Category 4 storm that caused catastrophic damage across 10 states, including major outages across the AES Indiana service territory. Winds exceeding 55 mph, accompanied by heavy rain and falling trees, caused significant damage to AES Indiana’s power lines and electric infrastructure.

Beginning Friday, September 27, our dedicated field, operations, customer service and support teams with mutual assistance crews from Massachusetts and Northern Indiana worked tirelessly day and night to bring power back to our community.

In total there were:

  • 100,000 customers impacted
  • 2,000 storm incidents (multiple trees and wires down per incident)
  • 750 people who supported restoration efforts
  • 53 transformers replaced
  • 54 poles replaced

Our customers rely on us to be prepared and restore power as quickly as possible during these critical times. It is a privilege to serve our customers, and we thank them for their trust, patience and understanding. We appreciate our community for their cooperation in this safe restoration effort, and we're always thankful for how our Central Indiana unites during times of need.
