“Powering Community” is what we do and who we are

AES Indiana Releases 2021 Community Impact Report

April 27, 2022

AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), released its 2021 Community Impact Report today, detailing the Company’s significant investments which reached nearly $2M in 2021. More than 30 percent of that investment went to organizations focused on amplifying diversity, equity, and inclusion. These investments are in the areas of arts & culture, economic development, education, customer needs and the environment.

“In 2021, we rebranded to AES Indiana and continued, if not accelerated, our investments in the communities we serve,” said Brandi Davis-Handy, Chief Public Relations Officer, AES Indiana. “With so many people and organizations in our communities continuing to face hardships and challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s never been more important to use our time, talents and treasures to make a difference.”

The 2021 AES Indiana Community Report shines a light on the investments we made during one of our community's toughest times and demonstrates how we are powering a positive and sustaining impact for the future.

“We are honored to serve the people and communities in Central Indiana,” said Tanya Sovinski, Director of Community Relations. Each year, we strive to serve better, learn more and lead well.”

Below are a few highlights from AES Indiana’s 2021 Community Impact Report:

Arts & Culture

AES Indiana was a proud sponsor of BUTTER, a multi-day fine art fair that showcased the works of 30+ Black visual artists from across the country. The event placed culture and equity at the forefront of the art community and AES Indianapolis was there to help elevate the narrative of fine art in Indianapolis and beyond through this partnership.

Economic Development

From long-term strategic plans to day-to-day operations, AES Indiana continually holds itself to a higher standard as it pertains to the economic, environmental, and modern energy goals of the Greater Indianapolis area. To meet those standards, the AES Indiana revAMP project – a seven-year plan to invest $1.2 billion in the modernization of AES Indiana's electric grid – works to replace outdated equipment and assets, decreasing the risk of outages and safety concerns for customers.

Customer Needs

AES Indiana made a difference for its customers and communities through Operation Nightlight – a project that illuminated Indianapolis by upgrading 27,000 energy-efficient streetlights. This significant project enabled AES Indiana and the City of Indianapolis to accomplish common objectives, including safer communities, cost savings and sustainability.

Environment

AES Indiana is taking the next step toward transitioning to greener and smarter solutions through the acquisition of two solar projects. In 2021, AES Indiana announced plans to acquire a 195 MW solar project in Clinton County and a 250 MW solar + 180MWh energy storage facility in Pike County. Collectively, the projects will generate enough energy to power more than 75,000 homes in peak hours.
