AES Indiana recognizes National Lineworker Appreciation Day: April 18
April 15, 2025
On April 18, National Lineworker Appreciation Day, AES Indiana will honor and celebrate lineworkers and the difficult and important work they do to power our lives. Nearly 120,000 lineworkers keep the U.S. electric grid operating safely and reliably, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which includes our AES Indiana line technicians. National Lineworker Appreciation Day honors the hard work, innovation and dedication of America's electrical lineworkers.
Over the past few weeks, AES Indiana lineworkers have experienced severe storms that have caused widespread power outages and damaged infrastructure. The most recent storm that came through AES Indiana’s service territory on April 2, 2025, brought heavy rain and winds exceeding 80 mph causing significant damage to AES Indiana’s power lines and electric infrastructure. AES Indiana lineworkers helped restore power to 87,000 affected customers in under 72 hours.
“This is a great opportunity to recognize line workers and express our appreciation for their hard work and service,,” said Nick Goodman, Director, AES Indiana T&D Field Operations and Contractor Management. “All year long, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, they build and maintain our system and serve our communities in times of need – often in dangerous conditions to keep the lights on for our customers in Central Indiana.”
AES Indiana lineworkers:
- Complete 8,119 hours of training and rigorous curriculum. The apprenticeship takes four years to complete and includes everything from classroom learning to extensive field training.
- Last May, AES Indiana lineworkers volunteered for the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, lining up their bucket trucks along the course to serve as mile markers for runners and walkers.
- Last October, more than 140 lineworkers volunteered 560 hours during AES Indiana Day in the Parks to clear invasive species, landscape, mulch and beautify Garfield Park in Indianapolis.
- AES Indiana has won multiple Mutual Assistance and Safety Performance Awards from the Edison Electric Institute for outstanding leadership and service in the electric power industry.
AES Indiana invites the community to honor lineworkers on Friday, April 18 by taking a moment to thank them for their work. Use #ThankALineworker on social media to show your support for the people who power our community.
