AES Indiana is ready for the winter season

AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), announced in Monday’s Winter Reliability Forum, hosted by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC), that it has sufficient capacity to serve its customers for the Winter 2023 season. AES Indiana, along with other large investor-owned electric and gas utilities, and regional transmission organizations, were called to brief the Commission on their preparations for the upcoming season.

With the colder winter months, utilities will see electricity demand peak, highlighting the need for customer-side technologies and energy efficiency to keep the grid stable.

“AES Indiana recognizes the importance and criticality of providing customers with safe, reliable, and affordable services, especially during the winter heating months,” said Brandi Davis-Handy, Chief Customer Officer, AES Indiana. “With the colder winter months, we see an increase in electricity demand. We are prepared to serve and support our customers and want them also to have awareness of the resources available to them as we enter these cold winter months.”

With a focus on the upcoming colder months, AES Indiana is reminding its customers of these helpful winter preparedness tips:

Before a storm:

• Have an emergency storm kit readily available: Prepare your kit with an emergency radio (battery powered or solar-charged), mobile device chargers, flashlights, first aid kit, non-perishable food items, water, face coverings, hand sanitizer, batteries and other necessities.
• Develop an emergency plan: Be sure that your plan addresses any special medical needs or medications you or your family members have. Call your local emergency management office to discuss necessary arrangements.
• Bookmark the AES Indiana’s Outage Center on your mobile device: Keep this bookmarked for quick access to report outages and get updates on our outage map. If your power goes out, report your outage immediately. Don’t rely on your neighbors to report your outage.
• Enroll in alerts and notifications: Check to make sure you are receiving the latest storm outage and safety information from AES Indiana, and if you’re not, enroll in alerts and notifications through your online account.

If your power goes out:

• Turn off all appliances, including your furnace, space heaters, water heater and water pump. Leave on one lamp to know when power has been restored. That way, you can avoid a circuit overload and another outage that may result when power is restored to all appliances at once.
• Keep freezer and refrigerator doors closed. Food will stay frozen for 36 to 48 hours in a fully loaded freezer if you keep the door closed. A half-full freezer will generally keep food frozen for 24 hours.
• Open your blinds during the day, cover windows with drapes at night and gather in a central room where there is an alternative heat source, such as a fireplace. Provide ample ventilation and ensure plenty of distance from your home or work when using portable generators.
