AES Indiana prepares for incoming winter weather and ensures winter reliability throughout the winter season
December 3, 2024
AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), is preparing for colder temperatures and possible snow moving into Central Indiana Wednesday. AES Indiana is monitoring the conditions and will have crews ready to respond to any power outages.
The winter weather comes just after the Winter Reliability Forum, hosted by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) Friday, November 22. The Winter Reliability Forum is held every year and gives AES Indiana, along with other large electric and gas utilities and regional transmission organizations, an opportunity to share their preparations for the upcoming winter season before the Commission.
During this briefing to the IURC, AES Indiana presented its generation diversity, fuel supply and transportation, operational processes to manage extreme weather events, winter bill trends and customer assistance information. AES Indiana is intentional about planning, forecasting, and analyzing its generation capacity to ensure its providing reliable electric service to its 530,000 customers.
AES Indiana would like to remind people that as the colder temperatures move in, there are ways you can prepare with these winter safety tips:
- Have your emergency storm kit readily available. Prepare your kit with an emergency radio (battery powered or solar charged), mobile device chargers, flashlights, first aid kit, non-perishable food items, water, face coverings, hand sanitizer, batteries and other necessities.
- Develop an emergency plan. Make sure your plan addresses any special medical needs or medications you or your family members have. Call your local emergency management office to discuss necessary arrangements.
- Be prepared. Bookmark the AES Indiana’s Outage Center on your mobile device for quick access to report outages and get updates on our outage map. If your power goes out, report your outage immediately. Don’t rely on your neighbors to report your outage.
If a customer’s power goes out, they should:
- Turn off all appliances but leave on one lamp to know when power is restored.
- Keep freezer and refrigerator doors closed.
- If the indoor temperature falls below 55 F, open your faucets slightly so they constantly drip to prevent pipes from freezing.
