Utility winter moratorium ends Saturday, March 15.
AES Indiana offers customers payment assistance as winter moratorium comes to an end
March 14, 2025
AES Indiana is reminding customers of payment assistance plans as the utility winter moratorium comes to an end tomorrow, March 15.
Every year, the state’s winter moratorium runs from December 1 through March 15. During that time, Indiana law prevents utilities from disconnecting service if the customer receives or qualifies for financial assistance from the Energy Assistance Program (EAP). The winter moratorium is designed to help keep Hoosiers warm during the colder months while providing customized solutions so customers can pay their energy bills. Eligible customers should apply to the program at a local EAP intake office and provide their utility with written proof of assistance.
Additionally, AES Indiana is scheduled to resume disconnections for nonpayment this month. Customers have not been disconnected for non-pay for more than a year, and have been offered extended payment options including 3, 6, 9 and 12-month payment plans. You can sign up for one of these plans by calling our customer care team at 317-261-8222. Customers current on their payment plans will not be eligible for disconnection.
