AES Indiana named an Emergency Response Award recipient by the Edison Electric Institute
January 11, 2022
Today, AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), was announced as an Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Emergency Response Award recipient for its restoration efforts in response to the destruction of Hurricane Ida.
As part of the Great Lakes Mutual Assistance Group, AES Indiana answered the call to help with restoration efforts left by Hurricane Ida, the second-most damaging and intense hurricane to hit Louisiana. The storm, which produced heavy rains and wind gusts of 150 mph, impacted approximately 1.2 million customers. AES Indiana sent four crews and 17 field personnel to help safely restore power to thousands of customers after Hurricane Ida wiped out the power for all New Orleans and some surrounding communities.
Presented to EEI member companies, the Emergency Response Awards recognize recovery and assistance efforts of electric companies following service disruptions caused by extreme weather or other natural disasters. The winners were chosen by a panel of judges following an international nomination process. EEI presented the awards today during the Institute’s virtual winter Board of Directors meeting.
“We are honored to be recognized by EEI as this award is a testament to the safety, hard work and dedication of our people,” said Mike Shruba, AES Indiana Vice President of Transmission and Distribution. “It’s a privilege to be able to serve and contribute to the spirit of the mutual assistance. We know all customers depend on their utility to provide the electricity they need to power their lives every day and the importance of providing the essential service.”
“This year brought several significant storms and other extreme weather-related events that impacted many customers and communities across the nation,” said EEI President Tom Kuhn. “AES Indiana and its employees worked around the clock following Hurricane Ida to ensure that power was restored safely and as quickly as possible. I applaud AES Indiana and its employees for the work they did to serve customers in Louisiana, and I am honored to present them with this well-deserved award for going above and beyond.”
