AES Indiana employees to beautify Washington Park during its 13th Annual AES Indiana Day in the Parks

October 17, 2023

For the second year in a row, employees and leaders of AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), will spend Thursday, Oct. 19 working to improve, enhance and beautify Washington Park. AES Indiana Day in the Parks is the company’s signature community project and largest volunteer event annually. This year’s main project will be to assist local artist Ashley Nora - who curated a new community mural artwork inside the gymnasium that volunteers will paint and complete. AES Indiana volunteers will also repaint the weight room and activity room and participate in outdoor landscape work.

This event marks the 13th year for the AES Indiana Day in the Parks initiative in partnership with Indy Parks and Recreation and The Parks Alliance of Indianapolis. This is the second of a two-year commitment that AES Indiana has made to invest in and support Washington Park. This year’s contributions included funds to remodel the front desk area and purchase new office furniture, refurbish the shower and restrooms with new counters, sinks and fixtures, and deep cleaning and enhancing safety components for the showers to better serve senior citizens and guests with disabilities.

AES Indiana is providing in-kind services and support from their lines crew to clear invasive trees and bushes along the 30th Street border of Washington Park. New horseshoe pits and park enhancements will also be made to Oscar Charleston Park, which neighbors Washington Park. This work supports the community groups, events and tournaments that take place in the park, led by the East Side Horseshoe Association.
