Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Rewards

For customers who are interested in a “set-and-forget” style of rewards participation, AES Indiana offers a managed charging rewards program that supports energy affordability and grid stability by shifting home EV charging to off-peak times when demand for energy is at its highest.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be an active AES Indiana Residential Customer and meet the following criteria:

• You must have an eligible smart device and a stable Wi-Fi connection.

• Customer must be served under residential Rate RS and have a Level 2 EV charger at this service address.

Rewards

• Customers receive a one-time reward of $150 for enrolling an existing eligible device. 
• Customers purchasing a new eligible charger through the AES Indiana marketplace receive an enhanced one-time reward of $250. 
• Once enrolled, customers earn up to $50 per year in rewards for passive participation in managed charging events during the summer and winter seasons. 

What are managed charging events? 

Managed charging events are a period of up to 6 hours (usually 2-4 hours) when we work with your charger to reduce your energy use or defer charging until later in the day. Managed charging events only happen on days when we expect energy demand to be very high. We’ll notify you by email up to 24 hours in advance when these conditions are expected to occur. 

What if managed charging interferes with my schedule?

AES Indiana alerts customers at least a day before a managed charging event occurs, giving you the option to charge ahead of time, or opt out of participating in the managed charging event. Customers are able to opt out of up to 2 events per season. 

How do rewards work?

Rewards are mailed out annually in the fall, with rewards calculated by your participation levels during each demand season (summer & winter). Customers who opt out of no more than 2 events, earn $25 per season enrolled, up to $50 per year. 

For customers who are interested in self-managing their charging schedule, AES Indiana offers an off-peak charging rewards program. This option allows you to earn increased incentives for scheduling your charging overnight, during off-peak times. 

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be an active AES Indiana Residential Customer and meet the following criteria:

• You must have an eligible smart device and a stable Wi-Fi connection.

• The eligible device must be used at an AES residential service address and charge at a rate of 6.6kWh or greater.
• EV charger at service address must be connected to metered service billed under Rate RS. 

Rewards

• Customers receive a one-time reward of $150 for enrolling in an eligible Wi-Fi-enabled device or electric vehicle?
• Once enrolled, rewards are limited to $100 per year for shifting charging habits to off-peak hours.

What are off-peak hours?

Off-Peak hours for this program are defined as 10PM until 6AM every day.

How do rewards work?

Customers earn $0.05 per kWh reported by enrolled Wi-Fi enabled device during off-peak home charging sessions. Rewards are limited to $100 per customer per year and are mailed out annually in the fall.
