Electricity drives smart, sustainable mobility solutions

Expanding the use of electricity in transportation saves money, improves sustainability, and enhances quality of life for everyone. Electrifying transportation benefits all customers by increasing and optimizing the use of the energy grid, lowering the average cost for customers, and enhancing the integration of renewable energy resources.

  • Greater EV efficiency saves money
Electric vehicles have lower fuel and maintenance costs than traditional equivalents.
  • Electrifying transportation reduces emissions
All-electric vehicles produce no tailpipe emissions, which eliminates harmful pollutants like nitrogen oxides and particulate matter that contributes to air quality issues. Additionally, as more renewable energy (like solar and wind) generation is added to the grid, the emissions associated with charging EVs will continue to decline, making them increasingly environmentally friendly over time.
  • Driving economic growth
The continued growth of electric transportation options could increase economic output by billions of dollars and generate hundreds of thousands of new jobs, while also saving customers money to use on other goods and services.

Did you know?

  • Up to 4x more fuel efficient
The average electric vehicle has an MPGe rating of 100 miles, while gas-power vehicles average MPG ratings between 26-49 MPG, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
  • Less than half the fuel cost
Drivers spend the equivalent of less than $1.35 per gallon.
  • Over 3.5 million EVs on the road
As of December 2023, there were more than three and a half million electric vehicles on U.S. roads. EEI predicts this number will be up to 26.4 million by 2030.
