People Behind Your Power: Shayla Freeling

Meet Shayla Freeling, Business Customer Service Representative, who’s always working toward an exceptional customer experience for AES Indiana business customers. Shayla plays a pivotal role in assisting business customers with their accounts. She manages service connections and disconnections, breaks down bills, processes check payments and handles customer inquiries and concerns with care and expertise. Shayla has been with the company for five years.

Here's more about Shayla: 

  • Shayla was born and raised in Indianapolis. 
  • Her first job was working at a clothing store called Rainbow Shops.
  • When Shayla started at AES Indiana, she was working part-time and grew into a full-time position. One of her favorite parts of her job is customer interactions. She believes it’s important as representatives to connect with customers on a personal level. “If we can empathize with their concerns and challenges, it not only improves their experience but also eases tensions on both ends. When I'm on the phone with them, I make a conscious effort to imagine myself in their situation. I believe that by understanding and relating to what they're experiencing, I can provide better support.”
  • Shayla and her husband have eight children, whose ages range from 14 years to 10 months old. She finds great joy in cooking for her large family and cherishes moments spent together in their backyard.
  • Shayla can often be found enthusiastically cheering on her children at their sporting events. While her daughter dances, Shayla's boys are avid basketball players, with two of them also kicking around the idea of playing soccer.
  • If she had to delete all but three apps from your smartphone, the ones she would keep: Shein, Amazon and Walmart.
  • The best advice she’s been given: “Strong faith believes BIG but is willing to start small.”
