People Behind Your Power: Mark Houdek

The people behind your power are people just like you. We live, work and play in Central Indiana. We have families, pets, hobbies and quirks. We volunteer and strive to make a difference. We are also a part of a dedicated team focused on powering your essential needs.

Meet Mark Houdek, Customer Solutions Lead. In this role, Mark collaborates with customers and stakeholders to promote programs and projects that accelerate clean energy initiatives and distributed energy projects, such as EV charging. These efforts provide significant benefits to both customers and the community. Mark has been with AES Indiana for six years.

Here’s more about Mark:

• Mark, a true Hoosier, was born and raised in Indiana.
• Before venturing into the energy sector and joining AES Indiana, Mark had a prior career as a wildlife biologist, exploring nature and studying diverse ecosystems.
• Even before that, Mark was busy cutting grass and working on bikes. As a teenager, his first jobs included being a lawn boy and a mechanic at a local bike shop. Mowing lawns paid well, although it was hot and itchy work. On the other hand, the bike shop job, while not as lucrative, was interesting and fun, offering him the chance to work on bikes and gain valuable experience in customer service.
• Mark's celebrity look-alike is Will Ferrell, though Mark doesn't see the resemblance himself — he's happy to accept it as a compliment!
• Mark is currently reading, watching and listening to:
  • Endure: Mind, Body, and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Performance by Alex Hutchinson
  • American Symphony,  a 2023 documentary on Netflix, and
  • The Energy Gang podcast by Wood Mackenzie.
• If Mark could only keep three apps on his smartphone, the choices would be Podcasts, Weather, and Lyft.
• The best advice Mark has ever been given is to stay curious and commit to learning and trying new things.
